Jon Gries' Pets

Jon Gries is an American actor known for turning offbeat roles into fan favorites, most famously Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite and Greg in HBO’s The White Lotus. His career highlight reel spans generations: an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Napoleon Dynamite and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of The White Lotus cast when the series won ensemble drama in 2023.

Gries started on screen as a kid in Will Penny, a Western written and directed by his father, filmmaker Tom Gries, then made his name in cult films and steady television work. He played basement-dwelling brainiac Lazlo Hollyfeld in Real Genius, the tormented “Wolfman” in The Monster Squad, and later scored durable TV turns as Broots on The Pretender, Roger Linus on Lost, and Dr. Roberts on Dream Corp LLC. On the film side, he popped up in studio hits and indies alike: Get Shorty, Men in Black, The Rundown, and the Taken trilogy (as Casey). In 2021 he reintroduced himself to a new audience as Greg in The White Lotus, returning for Season 2 and reappearing in Season 3 in 2025.

Gries shared the frame opposite Jennifer Coolidge and collaborated under creator Mike White on The White Lotus; traded quips with Val Kilmer in Real Genius; and joined John Travolta and Gene Hackman in Get Shorty. Action fans know him from The Rundown with Dwayne Johnson and from the Taken films opposite Liam Neeson.
