Diplo
Diplo, known by his stage name but born Thomas Wesley Pentz, is an American DJ, songwriter, and record producer famous for his role in popularizing the electronic dance music (EDM) genre. In addition to being a popular International DJ, he is also the co-founder of the music project Major Lazer which also includes DJs Walshy Fire, Jillionaire, and Ape Drums.
From albums like “F10rida” and “Decent Work for Decent Pay” to viral hits like “Be Right There” and “Close to Me,” Diplo has consistently blurred the boundaries of music genres. He co-founded the dancehall music project, Major Lazer, which unleashed chart-topping albums like “Peace is the Mission.” His influence spans not just EDM but also reggae, hip-hop, and pop, creating a genre-defying portfolio.
As a master collaborator, Diplo has worked with a spectrum of artists across various domains. To name a few, he’s partnered with Justin Bieber in “Where Are Ü Now,” Beyoncé for “All Night,” and Madonna in “Living for Love.” His Major Lazer project featured collaborations with the likes of Ellie Goulding, Travis Scott, and Tove Lo. He is also a member of the group LSD with Sia and Labrinth, Jack Ü with producer and Skrillex, and Silk City with Mark Ronson. Additionally, he has teamed up with popular artists including Gwen Stefani, Yolandi Visser and Ninja of Die Antwoord, Britney Spears, Shakira, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Trippie Redd, Chris Brown, CL, G-Dragon, Bad Bunny, Kali Uchis, Joji, Poppy, Dua Lipa, MØ, Ty Dolla Sign, and even renowned classical musician Yo-Yo Ma.
Diplo’s prowess hasn’t gone unnoticed; he’s received several notable honors. He secured two Grammy Awards, one for his work with Justin Bieber on the hit “Where Are Ü Now” and another with Skrillex for their collaborative project, Jack Ü. The MTV Video Music Awards also honored him for Best Electronic Video for “Close to Me,” a collaboration with Ellie Goulding and Swae Lee. Apart from music, he earned the title of Cultural Ambassador by the U.S. Department of State.
