Grey Mamba Snake
When she was growing up in Kenya, actress Lupita Nyong’o had a deadly grey mamba snake as a pet. But her’s wasn’t so deadly, as it was already dead. The snake was found and killed in her family’s house, but young Lupita found its body after. She grew fond of the dead snake and took it to school to freak out her classmates. She eventually donated it to her school, where it was embalmed and used as a science specimen to learn from.
Yoyo
Nupita Nyong’o adopted a ginger rescue cat named Yoyo from The Best Friends Animal Society in October 2023. You can learn about how she overcame her fear of cats through fostering to adopt Yoyo. In August 2024, Nyong’o and Yoyo took on the “A Quiet Place” cat TikTok challenge.
Schnitzel (Frodo the Cat from 'A Quiet Place: Day One')
In the movie A Quiet Place: Day One, Lupita Nyong’o has a cat named Frodo, who is played by a feline actor named Schnitzel. Nyong’o had a lifelong fear of cats and admitted she had to take “cat therapy” before working with Schnitzel… But they worked through it and then proudly hit the red carpet together!
