Sam Neill
Sam Neill is a New Zealand actor best known for appearing in the blockbuster film “Jurassic Park” (1993), where he played the role of Dr. Alan Grant, a paleontologist who is invited to a theme park where genetically engineered dinosaurs roam free. He reprised his role in the sequels “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997) and “Jurassic Park III” (2001).
Neill was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, and moved to New Zealand with his family when he was a child. He studied English literature and history at the University of Canterbury before pursuing a career in acting. He began his career in theater, working with the New Zealand National Film Unit before making his film debut in the 1977 film “Sleeping Dogs.”
Aside from “Jurassic Park,” Neill has appeared in many other popular films, including “Dead Calm” (1989), “The Piano” (1993), “Event Horizon” (1997), and “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” (2016). He has also made notable appearances on television, including the critically acclaimed mini-series “Merlin” (1998), “The Tudors” (2007), and “Peaky Blinders” (2019).
Throughout his career, Neill has worked with several other notable actors, including Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Julianne Moore, and Chris Pratt, among others. He has also worked with esteemed directors such as Steven Spielberg, Jane Campion, and Taika Waititi.
In addition to his work as an actor, Neill is also a winemaker and runs a vineyard in New Zealand’s Central Otago region. He has spoken publicly about his passion for wine and has even hosted a television show about wine called “The Winemakers.”
