Amy Brenneman is an American actress, producer, and writer best known for her role as Judge Amy Madison Gray in the television series “Judging Amy,” which she also co-created. Her other notable television roles include Officer Janice Licalsi in “NYPD Blue,” for which she received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and Violet Turner in “Private Practice.” Her film appearances include “Heat,” directed by Michael Mann, and “Twilight,” directed by Robert Benton.

Brenneman’s television career began with a notable role in “NYPD Blue,” leading to her co-creation and starring role in “Judging Amy,” a series inspired by her mother’s real-life experiences as a judge.
