Zooey Deschanel is an American actress, model, musician, and songwriter. She first gained popularity with her debut in Mumford (1999) and had a supporting role in Cameron Crowe‘s film Almost Famous (2000). Deschanel is known comedy films such as The Good Girl (2002), The New Guy (2002), Elf (2003), The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Failure to Launch (2006), Yes Man (2008), and 500 Days of Summer (2009), From 2011 to 2018, she starred as Jessica Day on the TV sitcom New Girl, for which she received nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and three Golden Globe Awards.
In “Elf,” she starred alongside Will Ferrell as his love interest. She also played the lead role in “(500) Days of Summer” opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt, solidifying her status as a sought-after leading lady. In “Yes Man,” she appeared alongside Jim Carrey. Deschanel has also starred in ensemble comedies, such as “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” with Martin Freeman and Sam Rockwell, and “Our Idiot Brother” with Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks.
In music, one of Zooey Deschanel’s most notable collaborations was with her ex-husband, Ben Gibbard, the lead vocalist of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. The two formed the indie pop duo She & Him in 2006, releasing their debut album “Volume One” in 2008. She & Him’s retro-inspired sound, with Deschanel’s sweet vocals and Gibbard’s instrumental contributions, earned critical acclaim and a dedicated following.
