Melissa McCarthy
Melissa McCarthy is an American actress, comedian, writer, fashion designer, and producer. McCarthy gained national recognition for her role as Sookie St. James on the popular television series Gilmore Girls (2000–2007). She played Molly Flynn on the sitcom Mike & Molly (2010–2016) earning her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series as well as two other nominations. McCarthy’s been nominated five more times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on Saturday Night Live, winning in 2017.
Her performance as Megan Price in the comedy film Bridesmaids (2011) lead to even greater popularity. Following the film, she co-starred in the comedy films Identity Thief (2013), The Heat (2013) with Sandra Bullock, Tammy (2014), The Boss (2016), Spy (2016) and Ghostbusters (2016) with Kristen Wiig. She had supporting roles in The Nines (2007), The Back-up Plan (2010), Life as We Know It (2010), This Is 40 with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, and The Hangover Part III (2013). In 2023, she played Ursula in the live-action remake of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” alongside Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King.
McCarthy is married to comedian Ben Falcone. The couple has two daughters, Vivian and Georgette. Falcone and herself started the production company On the Day. In 2015, McCarthy launched the clothing line Melissa McCarthy Seven7 which caters to women of all sizes and body shapes.
