One small step for a dog, a giant leap for canine kind. Award-winning canine actor Messi was the first celebrity to step onto the red carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival – And also the first celebrity pet to do it! The press called out “Messi! Messi” as the pup confidently strolled along the carpet and up the steps, before turning and waving his paws to the crowd.
Still on a victory lap from multiple acting award wins over the last year, Messi the Dog will be lapping up the attention all week at Cannes.
At last year’s Cannes, Messi won the Palm Dog for his breakthrough performance as Sandra Huller’s dog “Snoop,” in the French thriller Anatomy of A Fall. The role also won Messi the top prize at the 2024 Fido Awards.
This also follows Messi leaving Hollywood A-Listers pawstruck at the Oscars Luncheon like Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and then stealing the show at the Academy Awards.
It’s great to see Messi in the spotlight again, as his popularity has really brought more attention to canine and other animal actors over the last year.
