The Fall Guy, a movie loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, is set to hit theaters in May. This remake stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, Stephanie Hsu, and Teresa Palmer. It follows Ryan Gosling, playing a past-his-prime stuntman named Colt Seavers. Seavers ends up becoming an action hero in real life in a quest to find a missing actor who he previously acted as his body double.
And last but not least, it also stars a canine character named Jean Claude, who only speaks French. The pup is played by two yet-to-be-named Australian Kelpies.
The trailer (which you can watch below) features an action-packed scene with Gosling and Jean Claude.
Gosling shared that the French named and speaking Jean Claude was inspired by Hugo, his wife Eva Mendes’ late dog. Like Jean Claude, Hugo only understood French commands and was always ready for action. You see Hugo was a Belgian Malinois, with French the second most spoken language in Belgium after Dutch. Also if you know the breed, they often police or military dogs. In Mendes’ case, Hugo was hired as her guard dog in 2011, due to a stalker.
After a year, her then-boyfriend Ryan Gosling convinced her to adopt Hugo. The loyal pup went on to get additional training form Cesar Millan. Hugo passed away in 2014 at the age of 10.
And in case you missed it, Ryan Gosling was recently starstruck over acclaimed canine actor Messi’s appearance at the Academy Awards.
