Sharleen Spiteri
Sharleen Spiteri, the unmistakable voice and heart of the Scottish band Texas, has made her mark in the world of music with an impressive career spanning over three decades.
Spiteri’s musical journey took flight in 1986 with the formation of Texas. With her distinctive vocal abilities and songwriting prowess, she led the band to global recognition. Their first album, “Southside” (1989), achieved massive success with the hit single “I Don’t Want a Lover,” introducing the world to their rock-pop sound and Spiteri’s haunting vocals. Over the years, Texas has produced several chart-topping albums, including “White on Blonde” (1997) and “The Hush” (1999), both of which reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
Throughout her career, Spiteri has joined forces with an impressive array of artists and industry professionals. These collaborations range from performing “Suspicious Minds” with Elvis Costello to writing songs with the likes of Johnny McElhone, formerly of the bands Altered Images and Hipsway. Spiteri’s collaborative network extends beyond music into the realms of film and television. She contributed to the soundtrack of “Bend it Like Beckham” (2002), and even appeared alongside French actress and singer Mylene Farmer in her music video “Stolen Car.”
