Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford MBE is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team. A Manchester United player from the age of seven, Rashford scored two goals on both his first-team debut against Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League in February 2016 and his Premier League debut against Arsenal three days later. He also scored in his first Manchester derby, as well as on his EFL Cup and UEFA Champions League debuts. With United, Rashford has won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield and UEFA Europa League.
Rashford has partnered with a variety of notable individuals to make an impact off the pitch. An exceptional example is his collaboration with chef and restaurateur Jamie Oliver and actress Emma Thompson, where they lobbied the UK government to commit to extending free school meal provision following Rashford’s influential #EndChildFoodPoverty campaign. This successful campaign, backed by a multitude of celebrities like Stephen Fry and Dame Judi Dench, led to the UK government committing an additional £400m in support of low-income families. Similarly, Rashford’s partnership with leading bookseller WHSmith and children’s authors like Mac Barnett resulted in the ‘Marcus Rashford Book Club,’ an initiative aimed at promoting reading and literacy among children.
