Vera Wang was born in New York City. Wang began her career in the spotlight as a teen figure skater. Immediately after graduating from university she began working for Vogue and within a year was promoted to the fashion editor position as the youngest editor in Vogue history. She stayed for 17 years until leaving for Ralph Lauren and eventually creating her own label. Frustrated with the lack of quality wedding dress designs when she got married Wang created her own (costing $10,000) beginning an extraordinarily successful label.
Vera Wang has designed evening wear for celebrities including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. She has dressed brides such as Victoria Beckham, Ivanka Trump, Kim Kardashian and Chelsea Clinton. Vera lives in New York City with husband Arthur Becker and their two children.
