Kunal Nayyar is a British Indian actor and writer. He is best known for his starring role as Rajesh Koothrappali on the TV sitcom The Big Bang Theory. He was born in London to an Indian family, before moving back to India. In 1999 he moved to the States to get a Bachelor of Science in Finance at the University of Portland. While there, he started taking acting classes and appeared in school plays.
After he graduated, he decided to pursue acting professionally and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Temple University.
Next he started appearing in TV commercials and London theater. His first notable US role was for the stage production of Huck & Holden in 2006. His agent heard of a part for a upcoming sitcom for a scientist role and got him to audition. This led to him being cast as part of the original cast of The Big Bang Theory in 2007. He now stars alongside Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Mayim Bialik, Simon Helberg and Melissa Rauch.
Kunal is an advocate for rescue animal adoption and supports causes such as the Pet Rescue & Adoption Act.
