Jesse L. Martin is an American actor known for his roles as Detective Ed Green in Law & Order (1999-2008) and Joe West in The Flash (2014-2023). Martin’s career began with his portrayal of Tom Collins in the original Broadway production of Rent (1996), a role he reprised in the 2005 film adaptation. He became widely recognized for his work in Law & Order, where he starred for nearly a decade. His television success continued when he joined The Flash as Joe West, a central figure in the CW series.
Martin collaborated with Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp in Rent. In Law & Order, he worked with Sam Waterston and Chris Noth. During his time in The Flash, he appeared alongside Grant Gustin and Candice Patton. He also worked with Rosario Dawson in the film Rent and performed in theatre with Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
