Christie Brinkley
Christie Brinkley is an American model, actress, and entrepreneur best known for her appearance in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues. She appeared on the cover for three consecutive years in 1979 to 1981. She then went on to become the face of CoverGirl which led to over 500 magazine covers and contracts with major brands.
After her success in modeling, she began expanding into different fields such as acting, photography, writing, and design. She was married Billy Joel between 1985 to 1994 and appeared in several of his music videos. Both Allure and Men’s Health have both named her one of the most attractive women of all time.
It all started in 1973 when she met Patrick Demarchelier, a renowned French fashion photographer, at a party in Paris. Their subsequent work together, particularly for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, was instrumental in propelling Brinkley to the supermodel status. In the late ’70s, her collaboration with designer Halston propelled her onto the runway, modeling for his collections and becoming a muse of sorts for the fashion icon. The 80s saw Brinkley securing a milestone partnership with CoverGirl, making her the face of the brand for 25 years, the longest-running cosmetics contract of any model in history.
During this period, she also dabbled in acting, most notably in the hit film “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983) alongside comedic legend Chevy Chase. Then came a pivotal collaboration with iconic musician Billy Joel, whom she married in 1985, and starred in his “Uptown Girl” music video, significantly increasing her visibility. Her immersion into the world of acting deepened in the mid-2010s when she joined the cast of Broadway’s “Chicago,” first in 2011, then reprising her role in 2012 alongside Hollywood veteran Amra-Faye Wright.
Brinkley was named by Harper’s Bazaar as one of the ten most beautiful women in the world in 1982, following her powerful collaborations with Patrick Demarchelier. Her performance in “National Lampoon’s Vacation” was critically acclaimed, with the film itself grossing over $61 million at the box office and achieving cult classic status. In the realm of fashion, her contract with CoverGirl was a testament to her success, which later influenced the brand to sign other models for long-term contracts. Brinkley’s Broadway debut in “Chicago” was met with positive reviews, and her return to the stage in 2012 further cemented her as a versatile artist. Furthermore, she received the prestigious Merit Award at the 2013 Positano Prima Donna Awards for her contribution to the arts and entertainment.
