Mel Gibson is an American actor and filmmaker with an estimated net worth of $425 million. He was born in New York on January 3, 1956 and moved to Australia with his family when he was 12 years old. After performing in Australian theater, he appeared in his first film Summer City in 1977. In 1979 he played the main character in Mad Max, which is still considered his most iconic role by many. His leading role in Gallipoli (1981) won him a Best Actor Award from the Australian Film Institute. That same year Mad Max 2 was released, which was his first hit in the States, where it was known as The Road Warrior.
This led to his move to Hollywood, with his first film there being 1984’s The River. In 1987, he starred in Lethal Weapon with Danny Glover, which led to Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998. His most critically acclaimed film was Braveheart (1995). He starred and directed the film, which won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing and Best Makeup. He also won the Golden Globe for Best Director. Most recently he’s known for directing Hacksaw Ridge (2016) which starred Andrew Garfield and was nominated for and won many awards.
