Country star Kacey Musgraves opened up about her rescue dog Pearl nearing the end of her life. Musgraves adopted Pearl 15 years ago when she was 21. Now 36, Musgraves and Pearl have been through it all together.
Anyone who’s lost a loved one, pet or human, knows grieving can start before they’re actually gone. Musgraves is currently experiencing this and decided to share it, to both help her process it and connect with others who have or are going through the same thing. Over Christmas, Musgraves posted two Instagram stories on her sadness “… pre-grieving the loss of my Pearl Girl.” Pearl has been by Musgraves’ side through the ups and downs of her incredible life and career.
And Pearl has had her own battles, which include two serious accidents – With one resulting in a leg amputation and a rod in her hip.
Musgraves also touched on the human-pet journey, saying, “The bond we form with these creatures is such a blessing… but a ticking time bomb. An inevitable continuous deposit into a bank of future sadness. So painful but so worth it.
Musgraves has another rescue dog named Pepper, a Blue Heeler she adopted in January 2020. She credits the very good boy with saving her life back in October. She was walking barefoot with Pepper when she ran into a rattlesnake. Pepper protected her and got bit, which required emergency antivenom. Luckily, Pepper recovered from the attack.
