Willy Wonky the Wobbly Feline Is Inspiring His Millions of Fans To Adopt Special Needs Cats

No Willy’s not drunk – He has a “wobbly cat Syndrome”. But that’s not stopping him from having fun, spreading joy, and encouraging the adoption of special needs kitties to his 1.6 million followers! The technical name for his condition is Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which cats, dogs, and humans can develop at birth. While not in any pain, cats with “CH” lack coordination when walking, have generally jerky movements, and can have tremors.

Willy’s kind human, Mandy Morris, has given lots of her time volunteering for The Rescue Project in Kansas City. She brought 3-month-old Willy home in November 2020, after seeing that he was having no luck getting adopted. She knew that cats with CH usually end up getting euthanized as people are afraid to commit to a special needs cat. Plus black cats are unfairly less likely to get adopted.

Charlie Wonka, a black and white kitty with CH, also joined their family.

Morris also has two ginger rescues named Lucy and Hobbes, who are both very patient with all the wobbly shenanigans going on around the house.

And in September 2023, they welcomed Violet, an adorable tortoiseshell kitty with CH. [But we’re sorry to update this article with the sad news that Violet passed away two days after this article was first published. Our thoughts are with Mandy and her family.]

@iamwillywonky Oh boy. We have our hands full with this little one. Very small and fragile. Send healing thoughts. She needs lots of TLC but lucky for her, that’s my specialty #catsoftiktok #cats #kittensoftiktok #rescue #rescuecat #fosterkittens #kittens ♬ Dandelions – The Young Ebenezers
