The Fido Awards 2025: Meet the Winning Canine Actors of the “Oscars for Dogs”

Now in its second year of giving credit to the very good boy and girl canine actors out there, The Fido Awards have announced their 2025 winners! The now annual event is hosted by the British Film Institute.

Check out the video recap of the winners, which we’ll dig into after.

Mutt Moment Award

WINNER – Black German Shepherd, Babygirl

While most get scolded for stealing socks, the Mutt Moment Award praises a dog who stole the scene in a movie. In this case, it was the black German Shepherd who acted alongside Nicole Kidman in Babygirl. The runner-ups were a posthumous cameo from the iconic Toto in Wicked and Xin from Black Dog. For this role, Xin won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2024 Palm Dog Awards (the doggy version of the Cannes Film Festival).

Historical Hound Award

WINNER – Pimpao the Jack Russell, I’m Still Here

This award goes out to canines who star in historical-based or more classical cinema. Canine actor Suri Doguinha, the Jack Russell who played Pimpao in I’m Still Here, took home the win. The runner-ups were Charline Brown, the dog from The Apprentice, and the two poodles from Maria (played by Angelina Jolie).

RomCom Rover Award

WINNER – Minnow and Zest the Papillions, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy

We have two winners for a romantic comedy with Minnow and Zest. These two Papillions shared the role of Renee Zellweger’s on-screen friends in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. They’re in two scenes, including the viral scene of Leo Woodall rescuing the pup from drowning in a pool. The Runner-ups were Veronica, the Yorkie in Our Little Secret with Lindsay Lohan, and Lucy the button-talking border collie from Prom Dates.

Blockbuster Bowser Award

WINNER – Jean Claude the Kelpie, The Fall Guy

The winner of the big Hollywood production of the year goes to two Kelpies who play Jean Claude, the stunt dog who starred alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in The Fall Guy. The runner-ups were the security dogs from Red One and animated dogs Bloofy and Pouchy from Inside Out 2. We previously covered Jean Claude, who Ryan Gosling said was inspired by Eva Mendes’ late dog.

Comedy Canine Award and Best in World

WINNER – Peggy, aka Dogpool, Deadpool and Wolverine

The funniest furbaby (in this specific case, with minimal fur) of the year is Peggy, better known as Ryan Reynolds’ dog “Dogpool” from Deadpool and Wolverine. Peggy deservedly also took home the grand prize, the British Film Institute’s Best in World. The runner-ups were both animated pups with Gromit from Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and Doug in DogMan.

We’re big fans of Peggy here and have covered her multiple times, such as when Dogpool hit the red carpet with Ryan Renolds and Hugh Jackman for Deadpool and Wolverine.
