Over two videos posted on Twitter by Gracie Abrams, the opener for T-Swift’s Ears Tour, we get a peek into the creative process of writing a fire song. The pair met up at Taylor Swift’s NYC home for a late-night songwriting session after dinner (with plenty of drinks), then also got a lesson on how to use a fire extinguisher.
The first video shows the pair hashing it out on a piano. Then the second video cuts to a small fire on the kitchen counter, with Swift figuring out the fire extinguisher. Abrams warns her not to use water, with Swift replying, “I think we’re gonna die,” and Abrams laughs, “No, we’re not gonna die.”

And at the end of the video, Swift’s cat Benjamin Button strolls in and seems clearly unamused. We can assume her trio of kitties are used to plenty of musically-inspired (incited?) chaos around the place. In an interview with Billboard, Abrams admits they heard a thump in the distance, which she thought was a candle. Swift figured it was just one of her cats thumping around… So was Ben fed up with their 6am antics and committed arson in an attempt to end it???
“She was such a legend – I don’t know how at this hour or in our state she knew what to do. We both had an insane cough from the fire extinguisher fumes for weeks.”
Gracie Abrams, Billboard, June 2024
Back in December, Benjamin Button was iconically featured with Taylor Swift on the cover of Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” issue.
