Jonah Frantzich, known professionally as Jonah Marais, is an American singer-songwriter and part of the musical group Why Don’t We. He first gained a fanbase through YouNow, a live-streaming video site. Marais taught himself to play instruments and sing from a young age, and has since performed at various events and released multiple singles. In 2016, he joined the band Why Don’t We as their lead vocalist. Marais continues to write and perform music, both solo and with Why Don’t We. With a loyal fanbase by his side, he has achieved success as a singer-songwriter and is working on more projects in the near future.

Jonah Marais, catapulting to fame as one of the five members of the American boy band Why Don’t We, has always been adept at harmonizing his talents with others to create an irresistible symphony. The Minnesota native’s sonic journey began in earnest with his first notable collaboration in 2016, when he joined forces with Jack Avery, Corbyn Besson, Daniel Seavey, and Zach Herron to form Why Don’t We. Their debut single, “Taking You,” showcased an ensemble synergy that promised something fresh on the pop music scene.

Not long after the band’s successful debut, Marais encountered another career milestone when Why Don’t We teamed up with YouTube sensation Logan Paul for “Help Me Help You” in 2017. This comedic yet catchy pop tune, embellished with Paul’s idiosyncratic charm and Why Don’t We’s melodic expertise, helped broaden Marais’ audience reach while asserting his adaptability to differing music styles.

In 2018, a big break came when Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran penned the hit single “Trust Fund Baby” for the band. The unique storytelling and Sheeran’s distinct songwriting flair aligned seamlessly with the band’s pop soundscape. The collaboration with Skrillex on “Trust Fund Baby (Remix)” in 2020 gave Marais an entry point into the world of electronic music. The remix reimagined their Ed Sheeran-penned hit with Skrillex’s signature bass drops and electronic beats.

The band’s evolution took a global turn when they collaborated with Swedish producer and DJ, Felix Jaehn on “Don’t Even Know Your Name.” This dynamic partnership allowed Marais to tap into the European music scene and solidify Why Don’t We’s international footprint.

A significant career highlight was the 2019 collaboration with Macklemore on the infectious single “I Don’t Belong In This Club.” This was not just a commercial success but also a stylistic triumph for Marais, demonstrating his aptitude for combining elements of pop, hip-hop, and dance into a cohesive sound.
