Hugh Dancy is an English actor. He gained popularity after his role as David Copperfield in the film David Copperfield (2000). He later joined the all-star cast of Black Hawk Down with Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, Tom Sizemore, Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Piven, and directed by Ridley Scott. He also played Prince Charmont in Ella Enchanted (2004). After a series of successful films, he began working on television series such as the NBC television series Hannibal (2013–2015), The Path (2016–2018), and the Channel 4 miniseries Elizabeth I (2005). He has earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal as Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex in the Elizabeth I series.
