Hope Sandoval is an American singer-songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist for the alternative rock band Mazzy Star. She formed Mazzy Star with David Roback, and the band gained acclaim for their hit song “Fade into You.” Sandoval is also known for her work with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions, a collaboration with Colm Ó Cíosóig of My Bloody Valentine.

Sandoval’s career began with her involvement in the band Opal, where she replaced Kendra Smith as the lead vocalist. She and Roback, a founding member of Opal, later formed Mazzy Star, releasing their debut album “She Hangs Brightly” in 1990. Mazzy Star’s second album, “So Tonight That I Might See,” featuring the hit single “Fade into You,” brought them mainstream success. Sandoval’s work with Mazzy Star is characterized by its dreamy, melancholic sound, blending elements of folk, rock, and psychedelia. In addition to her work with Mazzy Star, Sandoval has released several albums with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions.

Throughout her career, Sandoval has collaborated with a variety of artists, contributing to her diverse musical repertoire. Her partnership with David Roback in Mazzy Star was central to her early success. With Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions, she worked closely with Colm Ó Cíosóig, blending their unique styles to create a distinct sound. Sandoval has also collaborated with Massive Attack, singing on their 2010 album “Heligoland” and the 2016 single “The Spoils.”
