Henry Selick is an American filmmaker, animator, and screenwriter known for his contributions to stop-motion animation. He directed films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), James and the Giant Peach (1996), Coraline (2009), and Wendell & Wild (2022).

Selick began as an animator, contributing to Disney projects like The Fox and the Hound (1981) and The Black Cauldron (1985). He made his directorial debut with The Nightmare Before Christmas, which became a major success and a milestone in stop-motion animation. Selick then directed James and the Giant Peach, combining live-action and stop-motion techniques. In 2009, he directed Coraline, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novella, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature. He returned with Wendell & Wild in 2022.

Henry Selick has collaborated with numerous artists and professionals in his career. In The Nightmare Before Christmas, he worked with Tim Burton as a producer and collaborated with composer Danny Elfman. On James and the Giant Peach, he worked with voice actors such as Richard Dreyfuss and Simon Callow. During Coraline, Selick teamed up with Dakota Fanning for voice work and Bruno Coulais for the film’s score. He collaborated with Neil Gaiman on the adaptation of Coraline. In Wendell & Wild, Selick worked with Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, who both voiced characters in the film. He also collaborated with Catherine O’Hara in both The Nightmare Before Christmas and Wendell & Wild.
