Andra Day is an American singer, songwriter, and actress known for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021), a role that earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and an Academy Award nomination. She is also recognized for her single “Rise Up” from her debut album Cheers to the Fall (2015), which received Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance.

Day’s career began with Cheers to the Fall, which brought her recognition in the music industry. She contributed the song “Stand Up for Something” with Common for the film Marshall (2017), earning an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. She appeared on Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life tour, performing “Someday at Christmas.” In addition to her album and film contributions, she performed with Aloe Blacc on “Let It Be,” and at the Global Citizen Festival alongside Jennifer Hudson. Day’s collaboration with Questlove contributed to the instrumentation on Cheers to the Fall.
