Mark Hamill
Mark Richard Hamill is an American actor best known for his playing Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’ Star Wars films. He started his acting career in the 1970s on the soap opera General Hospital and the sitcom The Texas Wheelers, along with many small TV show appearances.
A friend of Hamill’s was auditioning for a movie next to where Star Wars was holding auditions. His friend watched the Star Wars auditions and thought Hamill would be perfect for the role of Luke Skywalker. He told Hamill, who auditioned and won, going on to co-star with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. He continued as Skywalker for the next two sequels, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He is also well-known as a voice actor, with his portrayal of the Joker in animated versions of the Batman comic series his most iconic voice role. This started in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series and continues today.
In 2023, Hamill starred in the American gothic horror drama television miniseries “The Fall of the House of Usher” as Arthur Pym. The series was created by Mike Flanagan. Loosely based on the short story of the same name and other works by Edgar Allan Poe, it premiered on Netflix on October 12, 2023. his costars included Sauriyan Sapkota, Samantha Sloyan, Ruth Codd, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Willa Fitzgerald, Mary McDonnell, Bruce Greenwood, and Carla Gugino.
Hamill’s voice acting career allowed him to collaborate with Kevin Conroy in Batman animations, as well as Arleen Sorkin, Ron Perlman, and Tara Strong. On television, he’s worked with actors such as Scott Bakula in “Quantum Leap” and Daniel Dae Kim in “Criminal Minds.”
Over the years, Hamill’s work has been recognized through various means. He won a Saturn Award for Best Actor for his role in “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Last Jedi.” He’s also been honored with the Disney Legends Award and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, testaments to his lasting impact on both the film and television industries.
