Actress Jennifer Garner posted sad news on her Instagram: Birdie, her 9-year-old Golden Retriever and therapy dog, had suddenly passed away.
With Birdie such an important fixture on her Instagram, Garner felt it was important to share the news with her followers. Known as a foodie, Birdie skipped a meal last Thursday, which Garner took as a sign she wasn’t well. Garner’s intuition was unfortunately correct, as her vet found her pup was very ill and at “the end of her life.” Birdie managed to hold on until Violet returned home from college to say goodbye. (Violet is Garner’s oldest child and one of three she has with Ben Affleck) The vet also told her that “dogs often hang on until their person comes home from college” which Garner now believes.
Birdie had plenty of celebrity followers who gave their love in the comments. Chelsea Handler said, “Awwwwww what a sweet tribute,” and Kaitlin Olson said, “Good Girl.” Lily Collins said, “Oh I’m so so sorry. Sending you the most love and light and hugs,” and Tracee Ellis Ross said, “These furry beings bring so much goodness.”
For more Birdie, the very good girl landed a new job as a therapy dog at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles back in March.
