Gabriel Iglesias Mourns His 16-Year-Old Chihuahua, Who He Threw a $100K Quinceañera For

Gabriel Iglesias loves his pups, and the Latin-American celebrity comedian frequently shares this love for two rescue Chihuahuas named Vinnie and Risa on Instagram. Sadly, he has to share the news that his senior chihuahua, Risa, passed away just two months before her 17th birthday.

Speaking to People about Risa’s death, Iglesias said, “Risa only weighed 4 pounds but could make her presence felt in any sized room. She was there during my greatest and worst moments in life, loving me unconditionally the entire way.”

Iglesias posted a tearjerking video to announce her passing, with the caption, “Risa made me so happy for almost 17 years. She was there for me during the best of times and the worst of times. She died in my hands while I kissed her face, telling her how much I loved her.”

Iglesias and Risa made headlines in December 2022 when Iglesias treated her to a Quinceañera that cost around s$100,000 and had over 300 guests.

If you’re not familiar with Latin culture, a Quinceañera is a party thrown when a girl turns 15 years old to symbolize becoming a woman. But for Risa, 15 human years would put her at around 76 dog years, so the party was more to celebrate her long, love-filled life.

The lavish party included three outfit changes for the “4-pound princess.” And her 14-year-old brother Vinnie and her poodle friend Benny both looking sharp in doggy tuxedos. The party was filled with food and entertainment, such as a puppy snack station, a band, a DJ, dancers, circus performers, and more.

“I’ve had dogs since I was a kid and Risa was the only girl dog I’ve ever had. Since I’ve had her, from day one, she’s always been in my hoodie. She’s always been in my jacket. We’re very close,” Iglesias told Today, “So I said, ‘Alright, I’m gonna do this once. I’ve never had a daughter, I’ve never had a kid of my own, so I’m gonna go full blown on this one… And I did.”

A special human-doggy basketball-playing duo also performed that special night called Christian and Scooby (who we covered previously).
