Elsa Pataky, model and wife of Chris Hemsworth, just revealed their family’s newest member: A fluffy German Shepherd puppy! This is the couple’s fourth dog, among a range of pets found on their Australian ranch that include horses, parrots, fancy chickens, a mini crocodile, a bearded dragon, and more.
The adorable pup’s reveal was met with congratulations, but also criticism – Which you can browse in Pataky’s Instagram post below. The controversy stems from the choice to buy from a breeder, as opposed to adopting. One side says they should adopt, in part because it sets a good example, which is a point many celebrity pet parents come under fire for. And the other side says it’s their choice as long as it’s from a responsible breeder; with another point being that sometimes dealing with a rescue is a responsibility a family with kids isn’t ready to jump into.
Popular comments include @rach_lillian_shaw with, “What rescue was he adopted from as surely you wouldn’t have purchased off a breeder!!!!” and @cohen.shannon with, “That’s too bad. So many shepherds are walked to the euthanasia room daily. Wagging their tails because they think something good is happening.” Then you’ll find comments such as @alyss_malthouse saying, “It’s every person’s choice whether they adopt a dog or go through a broader. It’s legitimately a personal choice and neither is better than the other. Everyone needs to do whats right for their own families, kids etc. Some of these comments are ridiculous!” Then @ekfurlong mentions she got two pups from the same breeder @capaill_coloured_gsd_australia.
