Rick Astley is an English singer, songwriter and radio personality who has been active in music for several decades. He gained worldwide fame in the 1980s with his signature song “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Astley was born in Lancashire and first got involved with music after leaving school. He joined the soul band FBI as a drummer three years later before rising to fame with Stock Aitken Waterman’s release of his album “Whenever You Need Somebody” in 1987. This album sold an impressive 15.2 million copies worldwide, while its lead single, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” went on to be certified 5x platinum by the BPI and won him the 1988 Brit Award for Best British Single.
