Phil Wang
Phil Wang is a British-Malaysian stand-up comedian and comedy writer. He is a member of the sketch comedy group Daphne and co-creator of their BBC Radio 4 series, “Daphne Sounds Expensive.” Wang is also known for hosting the comedy podcast ‘BudPod’ with fellow comedian and Footlights alumnus Pierre Novellie.
Wang’s career in comedy began with notable achievements in the university circuit, winning the 2010 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year Award and Comedy Central’s Funniest Student Award in 2011. He gained further recognition during his presidency of the Cambridge Footlights at Cambridge University, where he completed a four-year engineering degree. Wang has since become a familiar face at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
In television, Wang has made appearances on several popular shows, including “The Rob Brydon Show,” “Room 101,” “Have I Got News for You,” and “Live at the Apollo.” He has also participated in “8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown” and “Taskmaster,” demonstrating his versatility and appeal in different comedy formats. His acting credits include a role in the sitcom “Top Coppers,” and he has contributed as a writer for The Guardian.
