Mel B, born Melanie Janine Brown, is an English singer, songwriter, rapper, television personality, and actress who gained global recognition as a member of the Spice Girls, where she was nicknamed Scary Spice. Brown was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, and grew up in a mixed-race family, with her father from the Caribbean island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis and her mother English.

Her journey into the limelight began with the formation of the Spice Girls, a British girl band that dominated the late ’90s with their catchy pop tunes and the mantra of “girl power.” This successful band included Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham.
