Iván Cornejo is a Mexican American singer-songwriter, known for his contributions to the regional Mexican music genre. Born in Riverside, California, Cornejo’s journey in music began with a personal experience of heartbreak in middle school, which fueled his passion for songwriting. He is self-taught in guitar, learning through YouTube tutorials, with his first song being Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba.” His early musical inspirations include T3R Elemento and Grupo Los de la O.

Cornejo’s debut album, “Alma Vacía,” made a significant impact, peaking at number two on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart and number seven on the Top Latin Albums chart. The album, which sold 7,000 album-equivalent units, also reached number 156 on the Billboard 200 chart and remained in the top ten of the Regional Mexican Albums chart for 35 weeks. His songwriting prowess led him to peak atop the Billboard Latin Songwriters chart in the week ending October 30, 2021. “Alma Vacía” was recognized as one of the best albums of 2021 by The New York Times. The single “Está Dañada” went viral on TikTok in September 2021, peaking at number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming the second regional Mexican song to chart on the Hot 100. In October 2021, Billboard magazine featured Cornejo in their Artist on the Rise column.

His second studio album, “Dañado,” debuted and peaked at number one on the Regional Mexican Albums chart in the week ending June 18, 2022. The album sold 8,000 album-equivalent units and peaked at number four on the Top Latin Albums chart and number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart. Cornejo was nominated for New Regional Mexican Artist at the 2022 Premios Juventud. His guitar solos in his songs often include alternative rock influences, a genre his brother and mother frequently listened to during his upbringing.

On July 27, 2023, Cornejo released the single “Aquí Te Espero,” which peaked at number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100. Cornejo’s career is marked by his unique blend of regional Mexican music with alternative-indie pop-rock influences, showcasing his diverse musical abilities and appeal.
