Kansas City has a cherished kitty influencer named Sly James the Cat. He’s best known for his alter-ego “Catrick Mahomes,” based on Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
His celebrity cat status is currently blowing up, thanks to his spot-on Patrick Mahomes impersonation landing him a role in the Hallmark Channel’s new movie, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.
The Kansas City Star spoke with Sly James’ human/agent, Brandy Peed on the whole exciting experience, which included the celebrity cat getting his own trailer and chair with his name on it. Peed said Sly James got an email from Hallmark in the summer for an “opportunity.” After signing an NDA, she was filled in that Hallmark wanted to use her content in an upcoming movie, as well as have Sly James play a role as Catrick Mahomes. This was Sly James’ first acting role and was a little scared from all the noise on set. But he adjusted through the afternoon of filming and nailed his scene, which saw him competing against his human costar Hunter King and her on-screen family to be named the Chief’s “Fan of the Year.”
Then earlier this month, Hallmark sent an driver in an SUV to escort Sly James to the red carpet premiere of Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. And in the photos below, it’s clear the 8-year-old Bengal-tabby mix’s confidence has leveled up since his first shaky day filming.
Then the cat showed his charitable side like any good celeb and joined for a viewing that supported Habitat for Humanity.
But before breaking into Hollywood, Sly James had been working hard creating cute content that usually involves custom costumes.
