Tupac Shakur
Tupac Shakur, also known as 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper and actor who lived from June 16, 1971, to September 13, 1996. Tupac is considered one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time and one of the best-selling music artists with over 75 million albums sold. His third album, All Eyez on Me (1996), was the first double-length hip hop album and sold over half a million copies in its first week, going on to sell almost 6 million copies in the United States. The album featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Redman, Method Man, E-40, DJ Quik, and more. Tupac was also known for being in the center of the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry of the 1990s, with his former friend and rapper Notorious B.I.G. becoming a rival. In September 1996, seven months after the release of All Eyez on Me, Tupac was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. After his death, Tupac released a double-length Greatest Hits in 1998 and five additional albums.
