slowthai, real name Tyron Frampton, is a British rapper. He grew up in Northampton and gained popularity in 2019 for his politically controversial lyrics and rough instrumentals. He was particular vocal during Brexit and Theresa May’s tenure. Slowthai placed fourth in the BBC Sound of 2019 and followed up in the same year with his debut studio album, Nothing Great About Britain. The album Nothing Great About Britain was nominated for the Mercury Prize. In addition to his ruffling feathers through his lyrics, his performances have also drawn internal criticism. He once faked a severed head of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on stage and later in 2022 wore a shirt bearing a swastika which was deemed offensive by anti-Semitism groups.
