Sean Clifford
Sean Clifford is an American football quarterback for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). His career, marked by a series of impressive feats, began to gain significant traction during his time playing college football at Penn State, where he was the starting quarterback and team captain for the Nittany Lions from 2019 through 2022.
Clifford’s time at Penn State was distinguished by his leadership and performance on the field. After redshirting his first year, he took over as the starting quarterback in 2019, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention and Academic All-Big Ten honors. His tenure included leading the team to a victory in the Rose Bowl, where he set a record with an 88-yard touchdown pass, the longest in the game’s history. Clifford’s college career culminated in being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Throughout his career, Clifford’s collaborations have been pivotal. He has worked alongside notable figures such as James Franklin, Penn State’s head coach, and Mike Yurcich, the offensive coordinator. Clifford’s list of achievements is extensive. He was selected as an All-Big Ten honorable mention multiple times and named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. His academic prowess was further recognized when he was honored in the 2021 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class and selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Additionally, he earned a spot on the Senior CLASS Award first team and was named Penn State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. His on-field excellence was acknowledged when he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2022 and honored as the 2022 Brian Westbrook Regional Player of the Year.
