Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin, born Enrique Martín Morales, is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, and actor. He is celebrated for his contributions to Latin pop music and his role in bringing Latin music to a global audience. His career began at a young age, initially gaining fame as a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, before embarking on a successful solo career in the early 1990s.
Martin’s early solo albums, Ricky Martin (1991) and Me Amaras (1993), established him in the Latin music scene. However, it was his third album, A Medio Vivir (1995), that brought him international fame, with the hit single “María”. His fourth album, Vuelve (1998), which included the World Cup anthem “La Copa de la Vida”, earned him his first Grammy Award and further solidified his international success. His first English-language album, Ricky Martin (1999), featuring the global hit “Livin’ la Vida Loca”, marked the peak of his crossover success and played a significant role in the Latin pop explosion of the late 1990s.
Martin worked with Christina Aguilera on the duet “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely”, and with Madonna on the song “Be Careful (Cuidado con Mi Corazón)”. His collaboration with Maluma on “Vente Pa’ Ca” was another significant hit. Additionally, Martin’s acting career saw him collaborating with actors like Darren Criss and Penélope Cruz in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (2018), for which he received an Emmy nomination. He also starred alongside Antonio Banderas in Evita on Broadway. In 2024, he starred in Apple TV’s Palm Royale, alongside Kristen Wiig, Kaia Gerber, and Josh Lucas.
