In 2020, Josef Newgarden adopted a rescue named Axel from Wags and Walks in Nashville, Tenn.[1] In 2022, Josef also donated a whopping $1M to the charity as a big thank you after winning the Big Machine Music Grand Prix.[2]

Josef Newgarden is an American racing driver who competes in the IndyCar Series for Team Penske. He is a two-time IndyCar Series champion, having won the title in 2017 and 2019. Newgarden has secured multiple race wins and pole positions throughout his career.

Newgarden began his racing career in karting and then moved to the U.S. F2000 National Championship, where he won the championship in 2010. He progressed to the GP3 Series in Europe before returning to the United States to join the Indy Lights series. In 2011, he claimed the Indy Lights championship with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, which led to his debut in the IndyCar Series in 2012 with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. Over the years, Newgarden has achieved numerous race victories, including wins at Barber Motorsports Park, Toronto, and Iowa Speedway.

Newgarden’s partnership with team owner Roger Penske was pivotal in securing his championship titles. He worked closely with teammates such as Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, and Scott McLaughlin. His collaboration with engineers like Gavin Ward and Tim Cindric optimized his race car performance and strategy. Newgarden also engaged with competitors like Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi.
