Israel Houghton
Israel Houghton is an American Christian music singer, songwriter, and producer known for his contributions to contemporary worship music. He has won multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album for Alive in South Africa and Best Gospel Album for Love God, Love People.
Houghton’s career began in the early 1990s, with his debut album Whisper It Loud released in 1997. He founded the New Breed group, producing live worship albums like New Season and Alive in South Africa, which reached the top of the Billboard Gospel charts. His music is characterized by a blend of gospel, jazz, rock, and reggae influences. He is known for songs such as “Friend of God” and “You Are Good.” Houghton also served as a worship leader at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church.
Houghton has collaborated with Kirk Franklin on the album A Deeper Level and worked with Michael W. Smith on the worship project Surrounded. He partnered with CeCe Winans for several live worship events and collaborated with Donnie McClurkin on the song “We Fall Down.” Additionally, Houghton worked with Chris Tomlin on the album The Power of One and with Yolanda Adams on various gospel music projects.
