Iris Apfel
Iris Apfel is an American businesswoman, interior designer, and fashion icon, known for her eclectic style and vibrant personality. She co-founded the textile firm Old World Weavers and ran it successfully until retiring in 1992. Apfel gained late-in-life fame in the fashion world, recognized for her bold, creative approach to fashion and her work as a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin.
Apfel’s career in interior design and textiles was marked by prestigious projects, including work at the White House for nine presidents, from Truman to Clinton. Her firm specialized in reproducing antique fabrics, which garnered a reputation for quality and uniqueness. In the fashion industry, Apfel became an icon for her distinctive, accessory-heavy style, inspiring a Barbie doll and several fashion lines.
