For an inspirational friendship, look no further than Petey the “seeing eye” donkey and Luna the blind horse Petey joined the farm in May 2023 at 8 months old with the plan he’d keep Luna company.
Luna is a senior at 21 years old and used to be a trail horse. She wasn’t born blind but has a disease called “moon blindness” that has no cure. But you can slow down progression but it eventually leads to full blindness.

Due to Luna’s blindness, she can no longer keep up with the other trail horses. And Luna would get lonely being left by herself. The plan was for Petey to be Luna’s emotional support donkey and keep her company.
But Petey went above and beyond, becoming Luna’s guide donkey, helping her navigate the farm safely. Their owner didn’t train Petey at all, being a caretaker with a big heart just came naturally. Luna knows the sound of Petey’s footsteps and follows him. Petey always keeps a lookout for Luna and notices when she needs help.
The pair have gone viral for several videos, with the video showcasing how Petey goes to Luna’s stable to lead her outside a fan favorite. (Petey also brings her back inside)
