It looks at the different ways dogs are portrayed, sometimes as metaphors for darker or tragic sides of humanity, or societal outsiders, like in Pink Floyd’s “Dogs” or Tom Waits‘ “Rain Dogs.” However, it also celebrates the joyful and energetic side of dogs, citing examples like Jethro Tull’s “Rover.” It also goes into heartfelt songs about specific dogs, such as Cat Stevens’ “I Love My Dog” and Paul McCartney’s “Martha My Dear,” noting how some songs truly capture a dog’s spirit or reflect the grief of losing a pet.
