After World Series Win, Freddie Freeman Celebrated by Adopting a Cat Named Champ

Freddie Freeman is an undisputed champ with the 8-time MLB All-Star just winning his 2nd World Series and being named World Series MVP. And his incredible record inspired the name for his newly adopted cat: Champ!

Just three days after the L.A. Dodgers big win, Freeman’s wife Chelsea share even bigger news. The unexpected adoption of a kitten from Stray Cat Alliance. The gallery showed Freeman’s happy wife and three boys with their new fur family member. It also included the photo below of Freeman meeting his surprise kitty with a bit of a surprised look on his face that gives the vibe of “a dad who didn’t want a new pet but will clearly fall in love with it.”

Many would assume that Freeman would have a preference for dogs over cats, as dogs are way bigger baseball fans. But while Freeman is a fan of dogs, he’s also a fan of felines. In 2018 while with the Atlanta Braves, Freeman, his family, and some teammates visited the Best Friends Animal Society pet shelter as part of their teams Season of Giving campaign. In a video covering the event, Freeman said he’d like to get a dog but due to his busy life, he plans to wait until he retires to adopt one. He also shared they had two cats at the time. They had a Bengal cat named Benji who tragically was killed in a hit-and-run in 2020 and a tabby cat named Nala. Freeman was also asked to pick his favorite part of the day, he said, “Little kittens, they kind of pull at my heartstrings.” (And he asked not to tell the dogs at the shelter)
