We’re taking a look back at the start of Herman the Pigeon’s true calling when he befriended a tiny chihuahua pup named Lundy. There’s a lovely rescue in New York called The Mia Foundation, which specifically cares for animals with special needs.
In 2019, Herman sat without moving for three days in a car dealership parking lot before being rescued. When they realized Herman couldn’t fly, he found a loving home at The Mia Foundation. In early 2020, The Mia Foundation took in a tiny Chihuahua puppy named Lundy.
Sue Rogers, The Mia Foundation founder, was tending to both of them – And thought it would be cute to snap a photo of them together. The pair hit it off immediately and started cuddling. The rest is history!
On top of the 10s of thousands of shares, likes, and comments. The post brought in several thousands in donations too. So more Lundy and Herman content was on the way!
Then Walkin’ Pets saw their story and kindly donated a tiny wheelchair to Lundy.
At the time, Lundy was actually too smol to use the wheelchair. But until he grew into it, the Hilton High School Robotics team created Lundy a wheelchair he could share with Herman!
Lundy and Herman had a wondering time that year…
But Lundy sadly passed away in September of that year.
But while Lundy watches from over the Rainbow Bridge, Herman stayed strong and continued his role as a foster dad to other special needs pups. And his next foster could easily pass as one of Lundy’s siblings.
He also fostered one incredibly adorable Dachshund.
And Herman clearly has a thing for white Chihuahuas!
If you’re able to support all the hard work they do and help cover the costs of expensive surgeries, please consider donating to The Mia Foundation.
