Ella

Breed: Golden Retriever | Adopted Dec 2020

Neil Patrick Harris added a Golden Retriever puppy named Ella to his family for Christmas 2020. Ella’s full name is Eleanor Menopee Burtka-Harris, honoring NPH’s husband David’s grandmother named Eleanor. “Menopee” was a joke by NPH’s dad, when said out loud as “Ella Menopee” sounds like LMNOP in the alphabet song. In July 2024, Ella tragically died in a freak accident at four years old.

Oh Santa, what have you done?? On Christmas morning, @dbelicious and I watched Gideon and Harper open a box filled with… a golden retriever puppy. Her name is Ella, and she has pretty much taken over our lives. She’s curious, clumsy, and sublime. Except for when she’s peeing everywhere. Or gnawing on everything. Which is always. Methinks we need some training. But first, I must go cuddle. Thanks, Santa. You rule. #grateful
