Alan van Sprang
Alan van Sprang is a Canadian actor known for his role as King Henry II in the CW historical drama Reign (2013–2015) and as Valentine Morgenstern in the Freeform fantasy series Shadowhunters (2016–2018). He portrayed Sir Francis Bryan in the Showtime series The Tudors (2009–2010) and appeared in George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead (2005), Diary of the Dead (2007), and Survival of the Dead (2009).
Van Sprang acted opposite Adelaide Kane in Reign, portraying her on-screen father-in-law during the show’s early seasons. In Shadowhunters, he appeared alongside Katherine McNamara, playing the central antagonist in a major multi-season arc. In The Tudors, he collaborated with Jonathan Rhys Meyers, appearing in courtly political storylines across two seasons. In Land of the Dead, he shared screen time with Simon Baker in a military-led survivor narrative. In Diary of the Dead, he acted with Michelle Morgan, contributing to the found-footage style progression of the series. In Survival of the Dead, he worked with Kenneth Welsh, continuing his recurring presence in Romero’s zombie film franchise.
