Tadpole is a Frogfish, a Hairy Frogfish, to be specific. He’s also the first Frogfish fishfluencer. Below is his viral TikTok that has already stacked 7.5 million views and 1 million likes in just one week. But by the expression on Tadpole’s face, he’s not in the mood for his newfound fame.
A frogfish is a unique species of marine creature known for their distinctive froggy-fishy appearance. They have a stocky, short, and compressed body, and their texture and color often resemble the surrounding environment—such as coral, sponges, or rocks—to help them blend into their habitat, making them masters of camouflage. These bottom-dwellers have a modified dorsal fin, known as an illicium or “fishing rod”, which is tipped with a fleshy bait that they can move to lure their prey. Despite their somewhat comical appearance, frogfish are voracious predators, exhibiting an incredibly fast strike speed. They are found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
