Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Still championing environmentalism from the grave, Steve Irwin (you may know him as the Crocodile Hunter) will be posthumously honoured on the 2018 Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in television. Alongside his wife, Terri Irwin was the face of the documentary nature show The Crocodile Hunter, subsequent Crocodile Hunter films, and the owner/operator of the iconic Australia Zoo in Queensland. Steve Irwin was a dedicated conservationist who was known internationally for his television persona.

Animal Abuse Registry in USA to prevent animal cruelty

Animal lovers can celebrate a huge win this year; in certain US states and counties, animal abusers are now registered in an online database, much like sex offenders. The law has been growing in popularity across the country, while some states have voted no, Illinois, New York and Tennessee are amongst the first to enact the registries. Tennessee adopted a statewide animal abuse registry in 2016, while New York and Illinois are implementing them on a county level.

The results of the annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest are in, continuing a 28-year tradition at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. While the name may imply they’re making fun of these pooches, they’re actually celebrating what makes each dog beautiful in their own special way. Including purebreds and mutts, many are rescues from shelters or puppy mills.

Besides their adopted pit bull Leonardo and puggle Nala, they’re always putting in time to promote adoption and support animal rescue centers. They even have their own hashtag #RyansMonthlyRescue, where they share dogs looking for forever homes, sell t-shirts to raise money and help improve the unfair stereotypes around pit bulls.
