Anthrocon ‘Furry’ Convention Raises Over $100K for Pittsburgh Senior Dog Sanctuary

Anthrocon, an annual “furries” convention in Pittsburgh took place last weekend. If you’re not familiar with what a “furry” is, they’re people who enjoy dressing up as anthropomorphic or “humanized” animals, usually in a fun, cartoon style.

As you can imagine, furries of course love animals – And in this case, are willing to put their money where their snout is. Each year Anthrocon chooses an animal charity to support, with each year raising more than the last (They’ve raised $647k so far!).

For 2024, they decided on Grey Paws Sanctuary, which cares for and houses senior dogs… And they raised over $100k! This doubles last year’s total, which they raised for Rabbit Wranglers.

Grey Paws Sanctuary rescues senior dogs from owners who are in a crisis or are unable or unwilling to care for a senior dog. They also take in senior rescues from local shelters, animal control, and other rescue groups around Pittsburgh. With medical bills often the reason people give up their senior pups, Grey Paws also offers financial support to help with this. If you’re able to help, you can donate online to Grey Paws.

We constantly get emails from people that need help, and I say ‘Yes’ to every single request because I didn’t have to worry about the money that was gonna be there. It was just so wonderful to be able to do that.
